American Federation of Teachers announces Harrah's Boycott
The president of the American Federation of teachers, Randi Weingarten, sent a letter to Harrah’s CEO Gary Loveman stating that the AFT “will not conduct business with any Harrah venue in the nation while you continue to stonewall in contract negotiations with UAW members in Atlantic City.”
The letter also states that the AFT has “more than 1.4 million nationwide” and that those members will take their “meeting and convention business elsewhere.”
Weingarten points out that Harrah’s CEO Gary Loveman collects “an executive compensation package which equals more than the amount required to do right” by his employees.
It is a great letter and the AFT is just one of many unions that will not bring their business to Harrah’s properties until the contract dispute in Atlantic City is resolved. Hopefully Gary Loveman will soon realize that stalled contract negotiations have very serious consequences.
The AFT boycott was also the lead story recently in the Las Vegas Review Journal online edition. You can read more about it on their website: http://www.lvrj.com/news/breaking_news/55061597.html
